Maintaining a consistent room temperature is crucial for the longevity not only of your finish, but for the wood itself. Along with consistent temperature, humidity plays a pivotal role in keeping your wood healthy. The drier conditions become, the more the wood will shrink and this can cause slight fissures in the wood and in some cases even splitting. By utilizing a humidifier in the winter months you keep much needed moisture in the air that will keep your wood from shrinking and maintain the 50% relative humidity that all of your wooden pieces thrive in. If you have a lot of wood in your home we recommend that you utilize an RH Hygrometer to make sure conditions are neither to humid nor too dry.
Wood is a living and breathing material that will respond to all temperature changes.
The general rule of thumb is this: If you are comfortable, so is your furniture. By following the recommendations found above, we can assure the longevity of all of the wooden pieces in your home.
